THE PSYCHOLOGICAL FEATURES OF DIFFERENT LANGUAGE LEARNERS AND TEACHING THE LANGUAGE FOR DIFFERENT LEARNERS

Psychological features is a factors that is mentally or spiritually concerned with the aspects in studentsʼ acquisition. There are a number of factors classified which are anxiety, attitude aptitude and motivation. They can effect studentsʼ acquisition. The student must be given practice in learning a language. Especially when it is a second language circumstance, the student must be busy on practice most of the learning time. This principle has a psychological justification too as the performance of learning is in clear proportion to the amount of practice.
The following personality traits are believed to be closely related to language learning.

1. Fear of making mistakes is a significant obstacle in language learning, affecting both children and adults. By explaining that mistakes are a normal part of the learning process, teachers can help learners build confidence and overcome this fear.
2. Motivation is a crucial factor in language learning success. It involves having a goal, putting in effort, desiring to attain the goal, and having a favorable attitude towards the activity. There are two types of motivation: integrative (desire to integrate with the target language community) and instrumental (motivated by rewards or benefits).
3. Elementary school students are ideal for using the natural approach, which focuses on understanding communication in the foreign language and minimizes error correction and grammar rules.
4. High school learners can be more challenging to engage, as they may be studying a language due to curriculum requirements or parental pressure. Teachers need to stimulate their curiosity and make language learning appealing.
5. Adult learners are often highly motivated, as they have a specific objective or reason for learning. However, teaching adults can be challenging due to their other commitments and varying levels of proficiency.
6. To maximize language learning, teachers should be attentive to students’ psychological factors, such as motivation, aptitude, attitude, and anxiety. By addressing these factors, teachers can help learners overcome anxiety and achieve their goals.
By studying brain research, we can gain a deeper understanding of the learning process and how people acquire a new language. Two major mental systems related to the learning process are data processing and connectionism. Of the two, data processing theory has had a greater impact on language acquisition than any other perspective in psychology. Data processing theory posits that learning a language is similar to learning how to drive a car, solve a math problem, or fly a kite. In other words, data processing theory suggests that learning a language involves the same mental processes as learning any other type of information, and thus language learners are not engaged in entirely different types of mental activity. This information is crucial for language instructors who strive to create effective lesson plans that help students become proficient in a new language.

Studying a foreign language can increase one’s chances of getting a job. Learning about a new culture allows individuals to meet new and interesting people. Interacting with another culture enables individuals to gain a deeper understanding of their own culture. The study of foreign languages boosts confidence. Moreover, it helps the teacher to identify what they can teach and how well their students are performing.

The conclusion emphasizes the importance of considering students’ psychological features in language learning and the need for teachers to be aware of these factors to help learners overcome difficulties and achieve success.
