And As Every Day
Hanaa Al-Amri / Iraq
And as every day,
I retrieve my facial prints
From a smart mobile shop,
Reading poetry (by Rumi),
His white hand claps.
I smoke some lies attributed to a hypocrite,
His features are not paved,
And I enjoy…
Some dark light
Diluted with tales.
An Iraqi week,
I try to decipher
The mysteries of a bare text,
Searching for cherries and apples.
And as every day,
I water the candles
With the technique of the four directions.
I prepare soup from the steam of history
And the spices of lust.
I shake the dust
Off the heads of the birds.
And as every day,
I sleep and dream
Of the sun
And its golden pot.
