Youth is the future and foundation of any society, representing its most valuable asset and an irreplaceable treasure. The young generation of Uzbekistan plays a pivotal role in shaping our future and defining the prospects of our nation. The government is focused on raising a healthy, well-rounded, and educated generation, supporting their scientific and creative pursuits, and ensuring they have the necessary conditions to find their rightful place in society. Youth affairs have thus become one of the highest priorities in state policy.
In Uzbekistan today, the attention directed towards youth is firmly entrenched in the country’s Constitution. With the recent constitutional update that came into force on May 1, 2023, a separate chapter and specific provisions have been added to address the issues of youth. This change marks a clear commitment by the government to continue prioritizing the youth. Furthermore, the year 2024 has been designated as “The Year of Supporting Youth and Business,” reinforcing this focus.
The opportunities provided for youth today enable them to pursue education, engage in scientific and creative endeavors, acquire modern professions, and unlock their full potential. Uzbekistan’s aim is to nurture a generation that is equipped with both modern knowledge and independent thinking, capable of competing on the global stage. These successes are already being realized, with youth increasingly taking active roles in education, mastering new professions, and expressing their talents in various fields.
Education, employment, social protection, healthcare, and housing have been defined as constitutional obligations of the state. Thanks to these provisions, youth now have access to a range of opportunities, including starting businesses, excelling in sports and culture, and pursuing international recognition.
Raising a healthy and well-rounded youth, involving them in the ongoing political, social, and economic reforms, and establishing them as the cornerstone of society, remains a key priority of the country. Over the past years, a series of laws, decrees, and initiatives have been implemented to support youth, such as the “Law on State Youth Policy,” the creation of the “Youth Union of Uzbekistan,” and the designation of June 30 as “Youth Day.”
The state’s ongoing policies aimed at youth are crucial for creating the conditions needed for them to grow, learn, and showcase their abilities. Specifically, they aim to nurture youth who think independently, respect both national and global values, and are resilient to harmful influences. This approach to youth education has become a central part of the country’s development. Today, Uzbek youth are making their mark not only domestically but also internationally, achieving success and recognition across the globe.
As President Shavkat Mirziyoyev noted in his speech at the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly,“Today’s youth represent the largest generation in human history, with their number reaching 2 billion people worldwide. The future and prosperity of our planet are directly linked to the kind of individuals our children will grow up to be.Our primary task is to create the necessary conditions for young people to realize their potential and prevent the spread of the “virus” of violent ideologies. To achieve this, we believe it is essential to develop multifaceted cooperation in providing social support for the younger generation and protecting their rights and interests.” These words highlight the importance of providing youth with the opportunities they need to shape the future.
